5. Prevention and Risk Mitigation
The following preventative measures can significantly reduce the risk of being stung:
- Heed Local Warnings: Pay attention to beach reports and announcements from local authorities regarding jellyfish populations.
- Wear Protective Clothing: When swimming, snorkeling, or diving in areas known to have jellyfish, wearing a full-body wetsuit or other protective clothing can prevent stings.
- Avoid All Contact: Do not touch any jellyfish, whether in the water or washed up on the beach. Even dead jellyfish retain the ability to sting.
