7. Actionable Policy Recommendations for Health & Safety Management
To ensure legal compliance and the highest standard of employee safety, management must implement the following mandatory policy actions.
- Mandate Comprehensive Training: Mandate that all designated first aiders be certified in CPR and Artificial Respiration for both adults and infants. Training should be delivered by a certified body and refreshed regularly to maintain competence.
- Provide Essential Equipment: Equip all designated first aid stations with single-use resuscitation barrier masks to ensure responder safety and eliminate hesitation to act. In high-risk environments or for dedicated on-site emergency teams, consider providing Bag-Valve-Masks (Ambu bags) and training for their use.
- Implement Regular Drills: Institute a policy of conducting regular, scenario-based first aid drills. These drills should simulate the high-risk incidents identified in Section 2 to ensure skill retention, test response protocols, and build procedural confidence among first aiders.
- Standardize Emergency Communication: Ensure that the first aid response protocol is fully integrated with a clear, simple, and prominently displayed procedure for contacting professional emergency medical services immediately. This protocol must be understood by all employees, not just first aiders, including the location of first aid equipment and the identity of designated first aiders.
